I guess the West also has a similar concept of private feelings and public opinions, although we try to hide the fact that we may have other thoughts. The fact that in Japan it is a cultural institution really makes things different, and I guess better to protect people’s feelings, but worse to tell the truth (since if someone brakes the Tatemae then it really stands out as rude). -Ricardo

Hi, This was a really great podcast. I liked learning about たてまえ and 本ね。These are concepts I have thought about and I think everyone knows about. However, in a lot of cultures, there isn't a specific word for it. I also think the manner in which you spoke was very Japanese-like because it was げんきな. This shows that you understand how to express yourself in Japanese and like a Japanese person. Overall, the video was well edited as well. I liked how there was background music playing throughout which made it very cute to watch. - リャオ

This was an amazing video: editing, acting, everything about it was great! I didn't know that the concepts of 本ね and たてまえ were so distinguished in Japan. This was very educational and great to watch!
This topic is way too complex for me to tackle in Japanese, but thanks for the tip. I just looked up Jóge Kankei and its influence on Japanese society. Although the name is unfamiliar, the concept is definitely native to the United States as well. Despite claims to social mobility, Americans also live fettered to a suffocatingly rigid hierarchy of power. It's a necessary consequence of capitalism, globalization, and other structural forces, I guess...but maybe over time, we'll figure out a way to remove these distinctions, which in my opinion inevitably lead to conflict.

難しい（むつかしい）ことをとてもじょうずに説明していると思います。例（れい）もとてもわかりやすくて、とてもわかりやすいポッドキャストでした。本音と建前（たてまえ）を理解することは日本語を勉強する上でとても大事だと思います。日本には「空気を読む」（くうきをよむ）という言葉（ことば）があります。そこにも日本人の本音と建前が大きく関係（かんけい）してると思います。時間があれば、この「空気を読む」という言葉について調べてみるのもいいかもしれません。
